Example of hegemony with person

Lets talk of an example with a political figure of the great leader of the present day Russia. Mr Putin. He rules Russia for more than two decades without any critical threats of his position. He was the President of Russia then Prime Minister and again become president and re-elect again and again.

Mr Putin was seen in his country as the hegemony of power in the Russian politics. He can't be overthrown easily and his tactics to keep himself a leader seems to last forever. In fact no one in his country is even near to compete him for the post of president in Russia. The West accused him of killings and homicides of his rival leaders in order to remain in power.

U.S. Hegemony: Example of hegemony by a country

In the international relation and international politics from 1950s until the collapse of the USSR in 1990 the two countries viz- The USSR and the USA were the most and deadly powerful nations. The entire world was seen as living in their camps and both of them were so powerful that all other countries have to side on either of them. No country was able to speak against any of them without they themselves support. This can be said that the world then has two hegemons or hegemonic powers.

After the end of the cold war in 1990 the USSR was exploded into many new countries. The USSR was forever dead and buried permanently.

The USA from that time till now has no more matching competitors in the world politics and so it becomes the sole Hegemon today. No country or group of countries on Earth dare to compete the USA power. The USA has used money and power to police the world. Because it acts like the international prosecutors the USA is often seen by other countries as the international policeman who is always ready to execute the wrong doer country.

With these examples I think it's clear and we can understand what is hegemony and what is a hegemon.
